Of course, a paper does not have to prove significant new results to have an important influence on the direction of a subject. And this is particularly apparent in regard to the paper of Hartley Rogers [1967a] based on his talk to the 1965 Tenth Logic Colloquium in Leicester, England. As Rogers states in his introduction to the paper “I shall be more concerned with presenting certain open problems in recursive function theory than with giving new results”, and goes on to say that these problems “are easily stated and appear to be of central significance in the foundations of recursive function theory”. It is a remarkable fact that these “ easily stated” questions (some of which became better known via Rogers [1967b]) have increasingly set the main agenda for basic
